HI, I'M DARCIE

Black and white photo of a girl standing on a balcony with a polka dot dress

It all started with writing break-up texts to friends (now) ex-boyfriends.

Then I turned into the designated writer in the group. Resumes. Speeches. English assignments - you name it, I wrote it. And then I kept writing about nearly everything that came to my brain. Eventually I realised I was good. Really good. If only I could do this shit for a living... I thought.

Spoiler alert - you can :O ?!

Took me a minute (years) to figure it out, but hey, I got there in the end.

Now I write copy for brands and fiction for myself (and one day the public). The line between the two is thinner than the veil between worlds on hallows eve. Both are about desire, attention, and making you crave more.

But professional-ish story aside, here's the human behind the words:

Overshare in 3...2...1

I'm a fantasy-novel addict with dreams of becoming a published author, a gothic horror movie enthusiast, and a world-traveller who plans trips around food (you could say my entire life revolves around food, tbh). I'm the friend who insists at cooking at dinner parties and pretends not to care when you shower me with compliments.

My notes app is full of plot lines that hit me at 3am, name ideas for my future café and restaurants I still need to try. I've been in a committed relationship with the gym for over ten years and of strong opinion that everyone should be eating an 80/20 diet, though occasionally I flip the ratio without meaning to.

On days off, you'll find me at the beach, hanging with my slightly-insane-but-hilarious family, or coffee-ing and yapping with my girlfriends. People think of me if they listen to Lana Del Rey. Or see gold jewellery. I can remember the lyrics to a song after I've listened to it twice, but not what I did on the weekend. Go figure.

I'm what some people might call a jack of all trades, and a master of ONE. That one? Writing. Long-form is my thing, because I struggle to shut up once I start. Emails, websites, newsletters, blogs, case studies, speeches—and other random requests. No I will not write break-up texts anymore (unless the pay is good and the man is awful)

Life is wacky and weird and addictive and totally unpredictable at times, but through it all, writing has been my constant.

So this is where the thoughts run wild. The drafts. Opinions. Hot takes. If you're still here, let's be friends x
